What PaperCut actually does
PaperCut is print management software. It sits between your people and your printers and does the things a copier on its own can't: hold a job until the person who sent it is standing at the device, route scans straight into a folder or a cloud drive, put sensible limits on colour, and tell you who printed what.
Most businesses come to it for one of three reasons. Confidential documents are sitting in output trays. Nobody can explain where the print volume is going. Or the print server has become something nobody wants to be responsible for.
MF or Hive: the difference that matters
The choice isn't really about features, it's about where the software lives — and that decides how much infrastructure you're signing up to look after.

If you already run servers and want everything on site, MF is the straightforward answer. If the appeal of this is getting rid of the print server — or you have several sites and no appetite for hardware at each one — Hive is the one to look at.
The honest version
Plenty of businesses are quoted the on-premise product because that's what the supplier is used to selling, then spend the next three years maintaining a server they didn't need. The reverse happens too. We'd rather ask about your IT setup first and quote the one that fits.
